About Custom e-Catalogs

A Custom e-Catalog (CeC) is an e-commerce enabled web site created by integrating a 'static' HTML catalog with a Thomas Register Order Online (TROO) program. This is accomplished by utilizing the code provided in the Custom e-Catalog Specifications.

CeC's combine the flexibilty in design, interface, and content presentation of HTML programming with the e-commerce support provided by an advertiser's Order Online program. A CeC draws upon an advertiser's Order Online database of parts to provide line item detail, RFQ, and ordering capabilites.

A CeC can exist as either a Thomas Register hosted catalog or an externally hosted web site. The coding for both implementations is provided in the specifications. The CeC Development Site provides a working environment for producing Thomas Register hosted CeCs.

Requirements
The requirements for establishing a CeC are as follows:

Thomas Register hosted CeC - Requires a contracted Thomas Register Order Online program and contracted pages on the Thomas Register Web Site (TRI). A CeC hosted on TRI replaces any existing catalog that may already be in place there and is accessible either directly via its' TR hosted URL (http://www.thomasregister.com/url) or a search of TRI.
An advertiser who has both a TROO program and a TRI hosted catalog (whether or not it is a CeC), or an externally linked site, will have icons appear at the appropriate product headings under both the 'Catalog & Websites' and 'Order Online' columns on TRI. Each icon directs the user to the appropriate environment. A CeC does not replace the standard TROO program interface.
